Airport; Izmir Adnan Menderes
The 3rd largest city of Turkey. The metropolis of the Aegean region, which was after Istanbul the most visited cosmopolitan city of the XIX century (Chateaubriand, Maximilian of Austria, Lord Byron, Lamartine). Lamartine wished to exploit a farm in the vicinity (Tire) which belonged to Baltazzi Family. (See note page nr:12)
Izmir, with its beautiful bay (amazing view from Alexander's Castle), sea front promenade, cafes and fair grounds offers within its vicinity the most prestigious archaeological sites as Ephesus, Sardis, Pergamum and the 7 Churches of the Revelation. (All of these are possibilities for meetings / conventions). In 2000 we were honoured to organise in Izmir, the international congress "Seferis in Izmir", Seferis being Izmir's Nobel prized native poet.
We are also able to offer special interest programmes, such as Religious Themes, The Last Excavations, Reflections of the Past, (for Greeks natives of Turkey), Venetian and Genovese fortresses. Further information is available on request. |
Smyrne est une princesse
Avec son beau chapel, L' heureux printemps sans cesse
Repond a son appel Et, comme un riant groupe
De fleurs dans une coupe Dans ses mers se découpe
Plus d ' un frais archipel.
